CIS-A2K/Events/Punjabi Wikimedians Meetup, Faridkot - April 2019

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

CIS-A2K organized a meetup at Faridkot on 28 April 2019. This was the monthly meetup of Punjabi Wikimedians User Group of April month and also this was the second meetup of Punjabi Community in Faridkot area.

This was the second meetup of Punjabi Wikimedians in Faridkot area after first meetup. This meetup was funded by CIS-A2K. By the approach of Nirmal Brar Faridkot & Charan Gill, five new participants have joined this meetup. Four participants were experienced Wikimedians & other participants were new. So, the main focus of this meetup was to have interaction with new participants. The meetup was started at around 12:30 pm. The introduction of participants took much time as just to know the interest of participants. There were some questions put by User:Sondspirit & User:Satgill13 that why they need to contribute Wikimedia projects. Satdeep Gill & Satpal (CIS-A2K) gave introduction of Wikipedia & Wikisource. Charan Gill added the little introduction of Wikimedia Foundation & ideas that why contributing Wikimedia projects is interesting for him. There was some discussion about Punjabi language keyboards. User:Satgill13, User:Sondspirit & User:Gurpreet Gholia were interested to contribute as translator on Wikisource. They have shown their interest to translate English books on Punjabi Wikisource. As Punjabi Wikimedians have discussed in meetups that how we need to treat newcomers on the first day, we have followed that instruction. We just gave an introduction of Wikimedia Foundation, Wikipedia and Wikisource. Nothing was done practically means we did not ask new participants to proofread page or to create an article at that time. Varinder Sharma joined this meetup after the half time & he was guided by Satdeep about to contribute on Wikimedia Commons. The meetup was finished at 3:30 pm. At the end of the meetup, it was suggested by Satdeep Gill that we have to create Wikiclub here & We have to do follow up activity every month here. Nirmal Brar has shared his idea about to do followup activity in Faridkot.
