Category talk:Essays

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

I don't understand[edit]

I don't understand this category. Meta:About says Meta is a place for personal essays about meta, not of any type. Most of essays here are about religion or philosophy, and I don't find the relation with meta. I think Meta isn't the better for them. Peleguer 16:07, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

This is not an Essay.[edit]

Concur with above. These personal essays are to be about Wikimedia: Projects. Anyone may contribute an opinion on this. Yet these essays here are all of human ideationalities.

Proof: See them; and compare with Meta:Policy:

What Meta-Wiki is not: Meta is not a disposal site for uncorrectable articles from the different Wikipedias, and it is not a hosting provider for personal essays of all types. If you're looking for free webspace, you can find a list here (http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Web_Space/). If you want to build your own wiki, check out the Wiki:Wikiengines.

People are "driven" here by "Wilkipedia is not a soapbox" [1]; they want a forum for idea espousal with quick links. Yet the point here seems to be ideas on the future contours of Wikimedia: Projects and active operational policy and not "ideas on anything".

Moved from main category page[edit]

Meta-Wiki started out as a place where many people described their thoughts about Wikipedia and other topics. This category is dedicated to these essays.

As of 2006, there is some disagreement about whether new essays, particularly personal essays, should be added to Meta anywhere but in user space. Old essays should nevertheless be preserved.

Options for preservation :

  • Merging into something like Historical Wikipedia pages, with many old pages on a single new page.
  • Preserving in place at their old page titles, with a historical template at the top.
  • Other...

Moved the above from the main category page - it had not been edited at all since April 2006, and I'm in the process of doing some reformatting. Cirt 17:09, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
