The Celebrate Women Advanced Assamese Wikisource Residential Workshop, 2026 represents a strategic step toward preserving literary heritage, celebrating women contributors and strengthening technical excellence on Assamese Wikisource. By integrating advanced technical expertise, structured community collaboration and gender-focused advocacy, the initiative seeks to address systemic gaps while reinforcing ongoing GLAM initiatives and improving proofreading and validation workflows.
Through cross-community mentorship, leadership development and inclusive participation; this workshop aims to build sustainable capacity within the Assamese Wikimedia ecosystem. Ultimately, it aspires to create a lasting impact not only within the Assamese Wikisource community but also across the broader Wikimedia open knowledge movement.
Background
[edit]Since 2024, International Women’s Day (8th March) is celebrated through the Celebrate Women Campaign with edit-a-thons, awareness programs, Digitization and Wikisource training by the Assamese Community.
From April 2025 onwards, the community has also been actively engaged in GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) collaborations with libraries. Through these initiatives, the community has successfully:
- Scanned more than 500 books
- Uploaded nearly 200 books on Wikimedia Commons and Assamese Wikisource
- Proofread more than 60 books on Assamese Wikisource
These achievements mark significant progress in preserving and digitizing Assamese literary heritage. However, during the proofreading and validation process, several challenges have emerged, including:
- Lack of active and advanced editors
- Complicated proofreading and formatting workflows
- Communication gaps within and across communities
- Gender gap in participation and leadership
To address these gaps and strengthen collaboration, the Celebrate Women Advanced Assamese Wikisource Residential Workshop, 2026 has been thoughtfully designed.

Purpose of the 2026 Workshop
[edit]This residential workshop aims to:
- Celebrate and recognize women Wikimedians
- Simplify technical and structural challenges in proofreading
- Facilitate cross-community knowledge exchange with experienced Wikimedians
- Strengthen mentorship and leadership within the Assamese community
- Sustain and scale ongoing GLAM initiatives
