- Abstract (up to 300 words to describe your proposal)
- This presentation is aimed at sharing the initial objectives of my PhD research on machine translation (MT) and metadata (particularly Wikidata) and how they have influenced translational practices in four language communities of Wikipedia during the past five years. The study focuses on the Spanish, French, Swedish and Dutch versions of Wikipedia with the purpose of understanding how the implementation of new tools and materials – particularly software robots and the content translation tool – have contributed to the adoption of specific practices. The project is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
- What will attendees take away from this session?
- Attendees will gain insight into Wikipedia, particularly into cross-wiki translation and the implementation of new tools. Attendees can also learn how these devices work. Users of the translation tools are also encouraged to share their experience and think about how the use of automation has changed the translational landscape in Wikipedia for better or for worse.
