Discussion[edit]
- Oppose. CentralNotices are overused, and POTY is not sufficient justification for a month of Wikimedia-wide banners. --Yair rand (talk) 06:21, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- I believe there is some misunderstandings here. By tradition each POTY round are two weeks ('campaign duration'), however, also by traditions there are two days after POTY's official start date for 'beta testing'. To avoid excessive CN exposure, the actual CN activity duration is limited to a week (so that's at most 2 weeks of actual CN use), and measures such as 'limit traffic' and 'impression diet' have been taken so that banners are not always visible during the banner active period.
- The point of POTY is to have Wikimedians globally vote on what they think is the best 'picture of the year', and CN have been our way of announcing the event to Wikimedians that aren't Commons regulars. POTY, in its current state, cannot run without CN.
- We have been using CN since POTY 2011 (May & June 2012), among the very first users of CN. If any rules regarding 'sufficient justification' have changed (which as a 'standard banner' I am doubtful of), I believe out use has been 'grandfathered in', if I may say.
- If you feel like POTY's use of CN could be improved, or could be replaced with a better suited venue, I am open to suggestions. If you feel like CN are overused in general and banner exposure are excessive, I believe CN admins and developers are open to your suggestions as well.

- I agree with Zhuyifei1999. POTY Banner has a long tradition and we never had problems/complains (as far i remember). I also want to note that we run the banner for one week (r1) and then later on (r2) one week as per standard practice. --Steinsplitter (talk) 17:56, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support No problem, go ahead! And a big thank you for take care of that. Yann (talk) 18:52, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
