Discussion[edit]

@Michel Bakni: have the English, Arabian, French, Spanish and Chinese communities been informed about and do they approve of the campaign? Ciell (talk) 18:49, 28 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ciell -- for editor only campaigns do you need prior approval? I thought the prerequisite was clear landing page and actions for participants (i.e. Wiki Loves Monuments, WikiGap etc)? Astinson (WMF) (talk) 23:09, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

@Astinson (WMF):} It is not so much *needed*, but still *advised*, especially with larger communities where not all the users might be in the (WMF) loop. I have never seen the distinguish difference between editor/non-editor campaigns for this, and because this could be seen as a kind of activist campaign (same as the SDG, or even Gendergap related banners), it's good to give communities a chance for feedback and input and have their approval. Ciell (talk) 16:17, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Michel Bakni and Astinson (WMF): Is the plan to delay this campaign? There isn't enough time remaining before April 8 to notify the relevant communities and still give seven days for the required comment period. --Yair rand (talk) 07:01, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi! I was wondering if this banner is going to get approved? We're running our event in Spanish starting next week, and since @Michel Bakni: was asking for the banner to all the events that are under the campaign, I thought it was unnecessary to ask for yet another banner if the campaign is asking for one already. But seeing that this might not come through and that we're running out of time, I want to know if we should ask one separately for the Spanish event. thanks! Scann (talk) 13:09, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Central Notice admin comments[edit]

@Michel Bakni: Hi, quick note on the image File:1080 WikiHumanRights2 2x.png, this imho will not be suitable for the banner. Images are displayed at ~65x65px (quite small), so maybe chose one of the symbols you think is most symbolic for the campaign. Ciell (talk) 10:14, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ciell: you can use the eagle. :).--Michel Bakni (talk) 13:04, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Michel Bakni: It's a THUNDERBIRD!! :D File:WP20Symbols THUNDERBIRD.svg Ciell (talk) 19:06, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ah! What a miss :D ! please use the thunderbird.--Michel Bakni (talk) 19:49, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Ciell:No one responded negatively to the notifications -- and as Scann above points multiple of the community groups are dependent on the central banner. Do we need to do anything else to circulate it? I would hope it runs for at least earth day? Astinson (WMF) (talk) 23:51, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Astinson (WMF) Hi, yes, let's move this forward. Michel Bakni requested this campaign to end on the 18th, but Earth Day this year is on the 22nd, correct? You want me to extend the campaign till Saturday next week? Ciell (talk) 08:43, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Preview of the banner Ciell (talk) 10:15, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please provide the translations of the banner text for the other targetted languages. Ciell (talk) 10:17, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Do you just need the translations in text here? What format? And yes lets extend that through next Saturday for sure. @Scann: can you provide Spanish? Astinson (WMF) (talk) 13:24, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just the one sentence: you can give it to me here. (I could use Google translate off course, but native speakers is always best). What do you think of the banner, can I enable it when you're done with the translations? Ciell (talk) 13:33, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Ciell, I just talked to our Chinese translator - -we are going to hold off on sharing on Chinese Wikipedia for right now-- can we also exclude mainland China from the banner, Astinson (WMF) (talk) 14:06, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Excluded zh language and China for targetting. Ciell (talk) 15:08, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the translation for Spanish: "Por favor únase a nosotros en el desafío de escritura #WikiForHumanRights sobre "El derecho a un medio ambiente sano" o únase a eventos relacionados organizados por la comunidad internacional de Wikimedia". Scann (talk) 22:41, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Translation is added. Let me know when I can turn the banner on. (preview of the last version) Ciell (talk) 11:31, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ciell, the banner is not showing in Spanish Wikipedia (at least I can't see it). I can see it on English Wikipedia, though. --Scann (talk) 12:25, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Scann, that is strange, the es-wp should receive the banner. Could you maybe check for me if all boxes are checked in your preferences? Ciell (talk) 14:12, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ciell I do have them all checked! Sophivorus & Cbrescia are you seeing the banner in Spanish? I don't see it. --Scann (talk) 14:17, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Scann, not today, not yesterday. I saw the banner in the English Wikipedia. --Cbrescia (talk) 14:19, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Scann and Cbrescia: should be solved now! For some reason I only saw the "spanish (formal)" option when setting the banner, and added the 'normal' Spanish as well now. Ciell (talk) 14:37, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Ciell, now I can see it! --Scann (talk) 15:55, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies for the mistake Scann, thank you for being alert and reaching out! Ciell (talk) 16:01, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I did add the Arabic and the French translation directly to the banner. please tell me if it is ok.
Of course it is, thank you! Ciell (talk) 13:57, 16 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It is ok for me.--Michel Bakni (talk) 19:32, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks for confirming: I enabled the banner now. Ciell (talk) 20:56, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just saw it running! It looks good! Thank you, Astinson (WMF) (talk) 20:59, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ty! Good luck with the campaign! Ciell (talk) 21:07, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Ciell:. I think there is a problem with this campaign, it can't be hidden. Please see: Meta:Requests_for_help_from_a_sysop_or_bureaucrat#CentralNotice_that_can_not_be_hidden. Regards, — Jules* Talk 21:21, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
