Central Notice admin comments[edit]

  • @Romaine: Can you please add a link for translating the banner? Thanks, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:26, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Translating the banner takes place on c:Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2023/CentralNotice. Romaine (talk) 17:56, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Romaine: Strange, that's not how we handle translation in CentralNotices. ;) But should do here, I think. Nevertheless, please add an impression diet as per the guidelines. —DerHexer (Talk) 18:18, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I will add the common diet this week to the WLE campaigns if there are no other concerns raised. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:13, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer: Sorry for the delay, I got ill. This way of handling translations with the large photo contests is already done this way for more than a decade.
An impression diet is problematic for the photo contest as the banner is used in two ways (it has two functions). First to attract attention and informing reader about the ongoing photo contest. On the landing pages people are asked to go out in nature to take photos for Wikipedia. The second function of the banner is when people return back home with the photos made, the banner makes sure they can easily navigate from Wikipedia to the landing page to upload the photos. With a diet, the second function is basically shut down and this has shown to cause a huge drop in uploads and reduces the number of (new) uploaders as they can't find back the landing page. In other words, a diet is contrary to the function of the banner. Romaine (talk) 14:45, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
