What is the purpose of the campaign? How will you measure the success of the campaign?[edit]

Description - Wiki for UN is a writing campaign for enriching Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects with content on topics related to the United Nations (UN) in order to commemorate 75 years from the foundation of the United Nations. The main goals of the campaign are to share knowledge about the UN's organisational structure and field of work in multiple languages, raise awareness about the activities and programmes that the organisation carries out throughout the world and lay grounds for more thorough coverage of topics related to the UN in the future.

The Charter of the United Nations came into force on 24 October 1945, which marked the foundation of the organisational known as United Nations. For that purpose, the date of 24 October every year is commemorated as United Nations Day. The start of the campaign will be on the United Nations Day and thus it will take place from 24–31 October 2020.

Discussion[edit]

All languages in the whole world...? Was there any discussion about this somewhere? Please read our usage guidelines. Ciell (talk) 19:15, 22 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Central Notice admin comments[edit]

  • For editting competitions, landing pages and banners should be translated into target languages and local coordinators should also be identified on target language wiki' with clear point contacts. Seddon (talk) 01:09, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kiril Simeonovski: there are several requests for global notices in November, as you can see on this page and more over in the calendar. Please plan your banner carefully: per our guidelines, the banners need to be as little intrusive as possible. You could consider doing a banner for one day, twice in a week for instance. That would also work against banner-blindness, which occurs when there's is always a banner visible and people will not notice the banner any more. Please explore all different kinds of possibilities for our banners (for instance: geo targetting/project targetting/language targetting/combinations of these options): Help:CentralNotice.
