Potential for the Wikimedia communities
Below you find our initially identified potential possibilities for Wikimedia communities. If you see more potential for the communities through this system, just add it below, or if you are unsure, to the talk page.
Verify copyright
[edit]Verify which copyright applies to content from other parties.
Helping uploaders
[edit]Possibly also useful during upload so that the user does not have to choose a license manually.
Check for erroneous uploads
[edit]Find errors in already uploaded images (for example, versions of images that have been uploaded under a Creative Commons license even though the image is without copyright).
Example:
Find media that has entered the public domain since the upload
[edit]Already uploaded media with a Creative Commons license may have entered the public domain since the upload.
Content management
[edit]Duplicates
[edit]Find duplicate files - files that have been uploaded multiple times without intention (and got away with it through minimal variations in the image).
Example:
If this kind of comparison gets integrated in the upload process, it could help prevent new duplicates from being uploaded.
Categorization
[edit]Find images that are very similar to each other (but are not duplicates) and should be in the same category (for example, restorations)
