Punjabi Wikimedians was recognised as a User Group by the Affiliations Committee in 2015. There was a period initially when we got some short-term grants but it has not materialised to a full-fledged annual plan. Over the last few years, we have mainly been implementing standalone activities such as the Punjabi Wikimedians Conference earlier this year. As a group of Wikimedians, we have discussed the idea of a sustainable plan for a few years now and after conversations with different volunteers, we have come up with this Annual Plan, in which different volunteers will own different parts but we will also need a paid staff to support these volunteers.

The primary challenge we are trying to address is to have sustainable and well-planned activities for the User Group. For instance, we haven’t been able to host something as simple as our monthly in-person meetings due to the lack of available funding but also due to the lack of a coordinator who can not only make sure that we have a good place to convene such meetings or workshops but also coordinates reimbursements or refreshments.

Another challenge we are going to tackle is the lack of new leadership. With this plan, we will foster the next generation of volunteer leaders. This can be User: Geet Arts, who is a passionate photographer or Tulspal, who is an active Wikidata contributor from the community.

Wikipedia Plan: A Move Towards Quality Content Last year, Punjabi Wikipedia hit 50,000 articles. To build on this, we plan to hold offline workshops for contributors, focusing on creating high-quality articles. Kuldeep and Sidaq will lead an article improvement edit-a-thon. We'll also develop policies and collaborate with communities like Tamil Wikipedia to ensure consistent content quality.

Commons Plan: Illustrating Punjab We will document Punjab’s villages through the Wiki Loves Villages initiative. This includes capturing historical sites and cultural activities and enhancing Wikipedia articles with images. Workshops and a photography competition will also encourage local participation.

Wikisource Plan: Expanding Punjabi Literature We'll organize proofread-a-thons and upload public-domain Punjabi books to Wikisource. Outreach to authors for relicensing their works will further enrich the collection, preserving Punjabi literary heritage.

Wikidata Plan We aim to integrate Wikidata with Punjabi Wikisource, Commons, and Wikipedia, improving data consistency across projects.

Partnerships Plan: Education Program We are reviving the education program with SEABA School to introduce students to Wikimedia projects. On-site workshops will empower students to contribute to Punjabi Wikipedia. During the Punjabi Community Conference in 2024, the community organised a Conference at SEABA school and engaged students with some pieces of training. We also utilised the resource of Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom which we will continue for next activities also.

Community Engagement & Infrastructure Monthly meetings will continue online, with four in-person meetings in a year. We will also create instructional videos to onboard new contributors. New infrastructure, including cameras and mics, will support our activities. As we mentioned, the community we develop the work in other Wikimedia projects such as Wikimedia Commons with Wiki Loves Villages activity and infrastructure such as Camera and Mic will be needful and most of the volunteers don’t have enough resources, so, the community will get one more laptop, so, active users can get the support to increase their work.

Press Outreach We aim to raise awareness of Punjabi Wikipedia through media coverage, including article placements and profiles of notable Wikimedians.
