6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

Main Challenges Identified:

1. Lack of Local Representation:

Previous content in 2024 & 25 FnF Telugu is largely centered on international or general folklore topics. Comprehensive articles on local Telugu folk arts, practices, and women folk artists were limited.

2. Stories of Unsung Women:

Narratives of ordinary women from rural areas, who contributed significantly to folk culture but were historically undocumented, were largely missing due to insufficient resources and attention.

3. Participant Expansion:

Attracting more contributors, especially women editors from rural Telugu-speaking regions, posed a challenge.

Strategies to Address Challenges:

1. Targeted Content Creation:

The 2026 project emphasizes local relevance, focusing on subtopics like women’s roles in Telugu folklore, local female storytellers/artists, and Telugu folk practices. Articles will be developed based on local newspapers, university research papers, and credible sources to ensure quality and authenticity.

2. Partnerships with Cultural Institutions:

Collaborating with Telugu academies, university folklore departments, and local libraries will facilitate access to authentic local resources and documentation, supporting the creation of well-sourced articles.

3. Training and Outreach Programs:

To broaden participation, the project will organize online and offline workshops for rural women students, teachers, and folk artists, training them in Wikipedia editing and content creation. This will introduce new female editors to Wikipedia while bringing local knowledge directly into the digital space.

Through these strategies, the project aims to surpass the achievements of the previous year (where Telugu women Wikipedians ranked first globally) and establish Telugu Wikipedia as a robust platform for local cultural knowledge and gender equality.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

Planned Activities for 2026

The Feminism and Folklore 2026 – Telugu Project aims to preserve Telugu folk culture by documenting women’s roles, arts, and traditions.
