6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)
  • Our primary objective is to address the significant knowledge gaps and systemic bias across sister projects projects of wikipedia. Currently, the vast majority of content is contributed by a small group of volunteers, which results in an imbalance in the topics that are covered.
    • This imbalance is by several barriers: a widespread lack of awareness that anyone can edit, an editing interface that newcomers find complex and intimidating.
  • This program is designed to dismantle these barriers by introducing the contribution process through learning sessions, demonstrating the value of individual knowledge, and building a more inclusive community of volunteers.

  • Series of 12 offline workshops at various institutions 
    • including follow-ups at institutions from [1]  
  • monthl 1-2 online workshops sessions
  • Wikisource 20th anniversary edit-a-thon June- July 2026
  • 1 offline 1day edit-a-thon to support translation of help pages on Kannada and Tulu languages

  • Educators and Students from participating institutions:  who are interested in digital literacy, language preservation, and cultural documentation. who can further disseminate the knowledge gained through the workshops to their students and colleagues .
  • Language Enthusiasts: Individuals with an interest in Kannada and Tulu languages, literature, history, and culture, including local writers, poets, and linguists. Current contributors who wish to enhance their skills and engage more deeply with the community.
  • Follow up with participants: As we done in previous iteration [3] , we intend to seek assistance from interested participants to join offline workshop on other institutions, this will also help us build volunteer community and help with being in contact with participants post events.

Learning opportunity through collaborating with community: As I implement this project learning new things along with community is major thing I hope to learn from this project, As my previous grant made me more insightful for organizing a workshop by tackling obstacles and be attentive to be more involved with the community.
