Telugu Wikisource is a valuable digital library featuring over 770 books and more than 20,000 pages. It serves as an excellent resource for Telugu readers, enthusiasts, and researchers. As one of the leading online libraries in the Telugu open knowledge space, it holds immense potential for learning and exploration.

However, despite its richness, Telugu Wikisource remains underutilized due to a lack of awareness among readers and researchers. This limited awareness impacts its broader adoption for educational and research purposes. In Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, there are over 50 Telugu departments across various higher education institutions. Many of these departments are unaware of how Telugu Wikisource can be utilized for learning and accessing public domain books. Recent curriculum changes in higher education have emphasized the integration of digital resources for Telugu language studies, presenting a timely opportunity to promote the platform.

As a student in the prestigious Telugu Department of Osmania University, I have actively advocated for open knowledge and the Telugu Wikimedia movement as a volunteer. I have shared numerous resources from Telugu Wikisource, including works on Telugu history and literature by authors like Gurajada Appa Rao, Jashuva, and Panuganti Lakshmi Narasimha Rao, with my classmates in the Master’s program. These efforts have significantly enriched our access to books and resources, enhancing our educational experience.

With this project, I aim to bridge the awareness gap about Telugu Wikisource in higher education institutions, particularly in Telugu departments. My goal is to increase its usage for academic purposes while fostering a sense of contribution to the Wikimedia movement among students at Osmania University’s Telugu Department and Nizam College.

Main Approaches to Achieve the Change

[edit]

To bridge the awareness gap and improve the adoption of Telugu Wikisource in higher education institutions, a strategic approach focusing on awareness, skill-building, and collaboration is essential. These efforts aim to integrate Telugu Wikisource into academic practices, foster active participation from students and faculty, and ensure sustainable growth of the platform. By leveraging the strengths of partnerships and user engagement, this initiative can make Telugu Wikisource a cornerstone of Telugu literature education while inspiring a culture of open knowledge and contribution.

Awareness and Skill Development
[edit]
