Better stitching between Commons and other projects (Community Wishlist/FA9)
Long-term opportunity
Description
Volunteers expressed interest in improving the connection between Wikimedia Commons and other projects, with requests to use Commons data across different wikis; create more direct paths between Wikipedia and Commons (shortcut for images on Wikipedia to Commons, file info to open Wikimedia Commons directly); and to use Wikidata to suggest images for Wikipedia articles across languages.
Going beyond the Wikimedia projects, there was also a suggestion to facilitate video transfer from YouTube to Commons.

Support the proposal "Suggest media set in Wikidata items for their Wikipedia articles" has been marked as "delivered" but only some part of it is planned or developed;
video and audio files set on Wikidata items (and some types of images) are still not suggested but a separate proposal will be created for that which presumably will also be in this focus area; one could also show these items somewhere at (eg below) the Wikipedia articles by default along with maybe some files from its linked Commons category. Lots of things are possible in this area and could make Wikipedia much more interesting & useful and spread knowledge across media formats. Commons is still fairly unknown and underused and opening files should show the Commons page which also has the categories (missing on the page currently shown) and more related files.
