Description

Wikipedia has grown substantially in size/quality and evolved to be available on new kinds of devices (i.e., mobile phones and tables) since 2001, but the fundamental product that it offers – longform text articles, occasionally illustrated by images or other media files – has not changed. Meanwhile, possible ways for people to get information online has changed substantially since 2001 (from static websites to video, podcasts, and highly personalized interactive learning platforms). Wishes in this focus area ask us to consider adding new ways that consumers could get and share information from Wikipedia besides searching for and reading longform text articles.

Support having podcast-like natural-sounding audios for most long Wikipedia articles could more than double Wikipedia readership in a short time; important to take advantage of this large opportunity; try listening to the examples, I listen to these audios daily; along with the audios it needs a modernized audio player with skip x seconds back functionality that can also play when the phone screen is off; Video is difficult – Audio is the format Wikimedia could tackle next after text Prototyperspective (talk) 21:48, 13 December 2024

Support I also believe that we should start thinking about ways to make video content from all the media we have in Commons and the text we have on Wikipedia, since the 2020s are the age of Tiktok and similar apps, in the same way the 2010s were the age of Instagram.
