حالياً، يتم تخصيص رقم كاسم للاستشهادات في محرر النصوص المرئي (VE). وهذا يسبب مشاكل عند استخدام محرر المصادر.

• إذا قمت بنسخ ولصق النص في مقال آخر، فمن المحتمل أن يتكرر الاسم، مما يؤدي إلى حدوث أخطاء. والأسوأ من ذلك، أن بعض هذه الأخطاء ستمر دون أن يلاحظها أحد.
• إذا قرأت المقال في وضع المصدر، فلن تعرف أي مصدر تم استخدامه.
• أسوأ من الأخطاء المطوّلة هي الأخطاء الصامتة. على سبيل المثال، نسخ <ref name=":1"/> من مقالة إلى مقالة أخرى قد يفشل بصمت إذا كان <ref name=":1"/> موجودًا بالفعل، وهو أمر أكثر احتمالًا عند استخدام زيادات رقمية.
• سيؤدي مقترح المراجع الفرعية WMDE Technical Wishes/Sub-referencing إلى تكرار نفس الالتباس/القيود، إذا لم يتم حل مشكلة إعادة تسمية المراجع. أي حلول يتم تنفيذها للمراجع العادية ينبغي أيضًا أن تُطبّق—أو يمكن تطبيقها—على المراجع الفرعية. إن تطوير المراجع الفرعية ليس عائقًا في هذا السياق.

سيكون من الأفضل وجود نظام يستخدم تلقائيًا lastname_year أو publisher_year عند توفرهما، مع توفير خيارات بديلة مناسبة عند عدم توفرهما. من شأن ذلك أن يقلل التعارض بين من يفضلون استخدام محرر المرئيات (VE) وبين من يستخدمون محرر المصدر. كان هذا سادس أكثر الرغبات شعبية في عام 2023.

Support With short names, otherwise it's bad in another way. I use LastnameYear (beginning with capital letter) for literature and for web sources including newspapers the main part of url (small letters), so the proposal seems to be quite similar to that. Additionally, if the full references are defined at the end of the article inside a references block instead of within the article text, any new reference should be automatically moved there as well to avoid chaos for editors who don't use VE.
