Implement Branching in Article Version History Similar to Git (Community Wishlist/W207/en)
Currently, merging article histories in Wikimedia projects can result in interwoven versions, creating confusing and unhelpful diffs. This makes it difficult to track the origins of changes and edits. Implementing a branching mechanism similar to Git in the article version history would allow versions awaiting review to be moved to a separate branch and then merged. This would help in understanding the history of merged articles and reduce confusion. Additionally, it would allow for the creation of private branches within drafts, improving the editing workflow and organization. Example of useless diff: [1]
