Add a date range filter to Special:MediaSearch (Community Wishlist/W221/ja)

Description
Special:MediaSearch on Commons is a great tool, but if you're looking for images from a certain time period (date taken/recorded, not date uploaded), like images of snow from January 1, 2009, you have to switch over to the Commons Query Service, which has a steep learning curve. This problem has led to the proliferation of date categories on Commons, which make the entire category system less usable since they lead to images being hidden away behind endless subcategories. It would be great if a date range filter could be added to Special:MediaSearch which filters based on the inception date of the work.

Support and also sorting by date (date taken, not date uploaded); this has many diverse uses
note that this wish is broad and there are challenges (see talk page) so one could also use date-subcategories and display a warning about 1. some flawed dates 2. some files having no readable date etc (still would be very useful)
Re which make the entire category system less usable since they lead to images being hidden away behind endless subcategories this would not address this and these categories are not a problem; it's that files often need to be also added to by reasonable by-subject subcategories etc, not just into by-date subcategories and that it needs a wall of images view that also shows files in subcategory branches which is what W397： In Commons category deepcategory view mode (wall of images), allow easily filtering offtopic subcats is about (the deepcategory can already be used for this but it has limitations) Prototyperspective (talk) 15:25, 20 December 2025
