Description

不妨設想建立一個專門用來管理引用來源的維基資料庫。這樣一來，我們就能跨維基專案追蹤各項引用來源的使用情形、評估其品質、補充詮釋資料，並改善那些被大量重複使用的引用來源。目前，維基數據並不適合承擔這項工作；學術文章或許是例外，但整體而言，資料量帶來的負載過大。

WikiCite/Shared Citations 是一項相當大膽的計畫，目標大致相當於為所有引用來源建立一套「維基版 DOI」——不只限於學術文章，而是涵蓋各類引用來源。這將讓研究者與編者更容易找到相關條目，也能把「驗證文字中的主張」和「改善、呈現每個來源的詮釋資料」這兩項工作拆開處理，同時大幅減少重複維護相同引用資料的情況。當然，如果有人惡意修改被廣泛共用的引用來源，其影響可能會類似於破壞高使用量模板；但另一方面，這種集中化也會讓破壞行為更容易被發現和處理。
