Description

目前围绕Sketchfab的问题凸显了一个非商业平台用于分享和可视化纹理化3D模型的重要性。成千上万的免费许可下的3D模型正面临威胁，在一份致Sketchfab的请愿书中提到，“这相当于烧毁了亚历山大图书馆的虚拟版”。

另一个使这个格式如此吸引人的发展是，现在用智能手机创建纹理化的3D模型，与拍摄照片或视频的难度几乎没有区别。

glTF（图形库传输格式）文件格式是一个开放标准，用于纹理化的三维场景和模型（ISO/IEC 12113:2022）。

在2024年维基媒体黑客松期间，已经开展了对该格式的支持工作 WIP 1026883。

社区已经开发了功能原型，可以在此基础上进行进一步的工作（原型Wiki网站）。

Support Beyond the public value of having a repository for these models, I imagine many project articles would be enhanced by them. I could see a Wikibook showing the steps of building a table with models illustrating each step in detail, or a Wikipedia page for an ancient sculpture that lets you see every detail from every angle.
