Description

The German weekly newspaper de:Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung has recently published their research results about the correctness and up-to-dateness of Wikipedia articles of the german language Wikipedia.

According to their studies, about 20 percent of articles are outdated and/or miss newer developments of the last years, e.g. recent transfers of football players, and 20 percent contain errors:

They selected more than 1000 random articles using de:Spezial:Zufällige_Seite.

The article texts were sent

  • to the Open AI models o1 and o3
  • and Google Gemini 2.5 Pro

with the task of marking sentences with outdated or incorrect content. Their staff then investigated whether this was actually an error or outdated information, or whether the AI's statements were inaccurate.

The results can also be found under de:Benutzer:Redrobsche/FAS-Wikipedia and have been discussed at:

From my point of view, a general tool or a method for (semi-)automatically finding and listing further such articles would be desirable, for example, for all articles created by a user (to be able to check their own articles) or for a specific category subtree (to make them available to portals and teams working on special subjects).
