Filter watchlist by user set for greater productivity (Community Wishlist/W412)

Long-term opportunity

View all wishes.

Description

Add a new filter called "Set of Users", where the watcher could add or subtract users from the set. This would work similarly to existing filters, such as for Bots (the set of all bots), except the watcher controls which users are in the set. See the RCMuter script in the English Wikipedia for a demonstration of how this functionality can work, although that script does not work within the Filters framework.

Scenarios:

  • A watcher may not want to filter out all bots, just ones they don't care about or pop up too often. Some bots produce daily reports we are interested in, and we want to see those when they are generated.
  • A watcher may trust particular users, and therefore wishes to mute their edits while hunting for more problematic edits or vandalism to address. See this 2016 wish for a more complex approach for addressing this scenario.

Also note that implementing this wish by itself would likely cause issues for some watchlist users unless "Watchlist should show prior revision to a page when filter(s) hide the current revision of the page" is implemented beforehand. A trusted edit by a user in a list should not hide a potential vandalizing edit.
