Description

Currently, the oldest edits one can see in the Watchlist are 30 days old and one can see pages with 1000 edits at maximum. There is no sufficient reason to impose these super-low limits on the editors. It makes things difficult. For example:

  1. If one comes back from a vacation and maybe is quite busy the days right before and/or after then this may already be enough to miss edits given that it also takes a few days to work down the Watchlist
  2. If one takes a break from editing (let's say for 1-24 months) then one will miss lots of Watchlist items that one may want to at least glance over to check the ones most important
  3. Sometimes some users do lots of changes with some tool like for example updating many data graphics at once which due to the max edit count then hides other edits

I think to get around the max edits limit, many users use sometimes use workarounds like limiting the Watchlist to just one namespace and then separately checking the other namespace or by opening very many diffs that don't need checking so as to reduce the edit count in the Watchlist or by using Watchlist filters to filter out bulk-edits like the one described in #3.

There probably also are benefits of such low limits – a main one could be reduced server load (is it? what's the rationale for these limits?). However, I'd suggest that the items could be lazy-loaded only if the user keeps scrolling down or keeps clicking load more. Moreover, I doubt the server costs would be high for such a function and I don't see how table sizes could be a problem there. One could even make it so that users can only load the Watchlist with higher limits say just 1-5 times per day but I doubt that's needed or the best solution. Maybe one would have to go to the preferences to raise the limits there instead of the higher limits being accessible easily from the Watchlist page – it's just important that there's a way to see up to at least 10 times the current limits. Because people have a limited number of pages on their Watchlist, that doesn't mean there's some very large number of Watchlist items – it would be relative to the number of watchlisted pages and many people have editing styles and capacities for many such items.
