Confirm the date when Wikimedia Commons will allow mp4 file uploads (Community Wishlist/W524)
Confirm a calendar day when Wikimedia Commons will allow mp4 file uploads. We could be about a year away but I do not see a schedule for this major change anywhere.
The Wikimedia Community is speculating on dates in various places but so far as I know, there is not a Wikimedia Foundation clarification of when the foundation intends to flip the switch to allow these files. The outcome that I am expecting is for WMF to make a statement that "On (specific day) Wikimedia Commons will allow mp4 file uploads and play mp4 files".
I see here community talk but could we get confirmation from the Wikimedia Foundation.
There are tickets in Phabricator but I do not see a thread to a main ticket planning to allow mp4.
