Description
As I do my edits in my iPad, when I try to translate my articles to Portuguese, I’m forced to click the automatic translation button. This makes almost the perfect translation but at the end I can’t publish the page because the translations are “just suggestive” and I have to change them a bit to publish the page. How will I do that if the translations are practically perfect already? It always ends up with me just abandoning the translations since there is literally nothing I can do…

Support I could use the Content Translation tool on some other wiki to then copy the output as a workaround because antique German Wikipedia doesn't have machine-translation enabled in the Content Translation tool. To do so, I had to enter lots of random text at random places into a perfectly fine just slightly corrected machine translated article. If the translation is good as often the case with modern machine translation, it makes no sense to require lots of changes. This is one component of the translation problems I explained in related wish W376: Better article translation system. Do people really want to write all millions of articles from scratch instead of starting largely via translating? Prototyperspective (talk) 20:51, 14 October 2025
