Description

We need a set of tools for editing images directly in Wikimedia Commons. The most useful image-editing functions would be grouped together in a single tool:

  • Face/License plate/... blurrying (on images AND on videos) : Commons has to be respectful of people's privacy, so it's sometimes necessary to blur faces (on images of demonstrations or when we don't get permission) or information (such as license plates that make it easy to identify someone). Actually, we have to use softwares for images and Python module "deface" for video, it would be better to have a tool for it directly in Commons.
  • Image rotate/crop
  • Image assembly : Sometimes images need to be placed side by side to better symbolize certain exchanges or comparisons, and a tool for grouping images would be useful for creating this quickly.
  • Graphics creator/generator : While waiting for the problems with graphics on wikis to be resolved, or simply for simplicity's sake, contributors sometimes need to create image graphics. Currently, the majority use Python's matplotlib or other tools that you have to code yourself, so why not make a foundation tool to make the task easier?
  • Image translation tool : But now we need to translate the titles and legends: to do this, we'd need to create a tool for translating text on the image, and this could be done easily directly from Wikimedia Commons.
