Description

Codex design tokens define some colors used by the interface. But some community-developed templates like navboxes and infoboxes are so ubiquitous that some of their color pairs for light and night mode should be added (or offered as standard replacements) as well.

Just to illustrate what I'm thinking:

light night

link headers link headers
link headers link headers

A few pairs across the spectrum should be enough: two shades of blue and gray, plus one of green, orange, red. This would help designing and easier fixing of our many _boxes and tables for the night mode, where one only needs

background:var(--green-subtle, #xxxxxx)

instead of duplicate entries in some .css.

For example, English Wiktionary has a huge Wiktionary:Palette. A small subset would be enough for most wikis.
