Pinging from edit summaries should be easier and more convenient (Community Wishlist/W401)
Currently, pinging users in edit summaries is possible, but only by using wikitext (e.g. [[User:Username]]), as described here. However, Discussion Tools provides (in talk page comments/posts, not in the "Publish changes" window!) a more convenient way of pinging users: typing "@" or clicking on
opens an easy-to-use mini-window that suggests users to ping both as you tipe and by default (and the users suggested by default are users who have already participated in the discussion you are being replying to). The "Publish changes" window could provide a similar feature to the Discussion Tools one. The users suggested by default by the "Publish changes" window could be the latest users who edited the page being edited.
Unassigned
New users, who are unlikely to know how to ping in edit summaries or whether that is possible. Experienced editors as well, by saving their time.
