Improve FastCCI capabilities and performance

Withdrawn by proposer (too many proposals)

  • Who would benefit: Users who would otherwise create a combinatorical explosion of intersection categories.
  • Proposed solution: Enable FastCCI to perform that kind of intersection quickly and reliably. (It currently times out on sufficiently large categories.) Enable permalinks to the results, and possibly cache them on the server side. Enable the ability to do 'shallow' unions and intersections, i.e., ones that don't include files in descendant categories.

Discussion[edit]

  • I would also very much like to see significantly better search capabilities on commons - fuzzy search, boolean operators, order by filesize, megapixels and other metrics - say, popularity - would all be extremely helpful. Instead of adding this to fastCCI, is this stuff not a question of Commons' "search" capabilities? Might be better to propose it there -- Thennicke (talk) 10:29, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Thennicke: I jumped the gun here--I'd like there to be better category intersection/exploration options, but they don't have to go through FastCCI specifically. I figured 'Multimedia and Commons' is a good place for it, but I can kinda-duplicate the request under 'Search', if you think that's a good idea. • Up to you; it was only a suggestion. I suppose it doesn't really matter which section it's in because it's mainly commons related, but the heading suggests that this is only about FastCCI, which I would suggest changing to say "search" in general. Thanks :) -- Thennicke (talk) 02:28, 11 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
