Community Wishlist Survey 2017/Archive/Make all forms of Unicode available on all Wikimedia projects.

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Make all forms of Unicode available on all Wikimedia projects.

Withdrawn by proposer (too many proposals)

  • Problem: Currently I am drafting an article that deals with the Qing Dynasty (the Manchu Empire) which uses a great deal of Manchu script, if I were editing on a wiki where I could use the template {{ManchuSibeUnicode|ᠠᠪᡴᠠᡳ<br>ᡶᡠᠯᡳᠩᡤᠠ<br>ᡥᠠᠨ<br>ᠵᡳᡴᠠ}} however there is no local {{MantsjoeXibeUnicode|}} template on Dutch Wikipedia, for articles relating to the Qing Dynasty, being able to use the vertically written Manchu script is paramount. This problem also extends to other wiki's as not all of them have volunteers willing to invest their times in writing these templates.
  • Who would benefit: Everyone. 🤳🏻
  • Proposed solution: Make Unicode templates universal among all Wikimedia projects, and allow all forms of Unicode input 🔢 to work. 🐱‍💻

Discussion[edit]

All forms of Unicode do work, assuming the browser has appropriate fonts to render them. These templates override the default font stack with alternatives that may exist on Windows and Macs, and sometimes provide additional CSS. Anomie (talk) 15:09, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The functional part of templates like this can be copied verbatim, the time-consuming part is translating the documentation. Having "universal" templates would make some aspects a little easier. --bdijkstra (talk) 21:21, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Donald Trung: Please note that you are only allowed three proposals maximum. This was mentioned in the survey rules. You need to withdraw your rest. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 19:39, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
