Use native video player

Merged with another proposal

  • Problem: our current video player is severely outdated and outclassed by browsers' native players. It's clumsy and its UI doesn't look well on modern high resolution screens.
  • Who would benefit: readers and editors alike
  • Proposed solution: use native HTML5 player
  • More comments: we can sacrifice being able to show videos to 2-3% of our viewers which sounds like a good tradeoff to me as long as we the rest of our readers don't have to suffer the Kaltura player anymore.
  • Phabricator tickets:

Discussion[edit]

I don’t know what HTML5 is capable of, but a link to the file description page is needed for copyright reasons, subtitles have no point if they can’t be used, and the quality selection is also useful. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 13:45, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
