Actively work to incorporate Wiktionary into Pleco

NoN Technically infeasible

  • Problem: Should be added not just in the paid version but also the free version.
  • Who would benefit: Chinese-English Wiktionary entries will probably get more attention from people interested in Chinese over the course of the coming years and decades which would benefit not only Chinese-English entries but all of Wiktionary; Chinese language students currently unfamiliar with wiktionary will have a platform to exchange ideas about the meaning of Chinese words (rather than be forced accept dictionary definitions some of which may not be very good); the Pleco app will become a more powerful tool and Mike Love will make money
  • Proposed solution:
  • More comments: The current format of free Pleco wouldn't really work with wiktionary, but there are rumors that there is a revamping of Pleco in the works with the intent to include wiktionary in some fashion.

Discussion

@Geographyinitiative: This sounds like a potential consumer of the Lexicographical data project which is being worked on? It looks like Pleco is not free software and its source code is not available in public (please correct me if I am wrong!), so once the Lexicographical Data project has made more progress, integration would have to be done by Pleco developers. That also means that there is not much that the Community Tech team can do here. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 02:19, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have archived it, because it is not possible for us to help, due to closed-source software. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 00:23, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
