Anti-vandalism tool for patrollers and reviewers

NoN Proposes a social change that needs wide consensus before it can be developed

  • Problem: The blocking of vandalising users, as well as the deletion of their nonsense articles, requires admins, who are not always available.
  • Who would benefit: Users who remove vandalism.
    Deutsch: Benutzern, die Vandalismus entfernen
  • Proposed solution: Rollbackers should be able to suggest IP (and maybe newly registered) users for blocking at on a special page, through which they are blocked until an admin makes a decision or fifteen minutes pass. It should be possible to let the form you fill in when blocking be filled in in advance. There should also be a similar function for deletion. Prior to admin decision should the rollbacker also be able to undo these actions.

Discussion

I've translated this from the original German, but kept the original below my English translation. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 12:34, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Honischboy Hello. Thanks for your proposal. I want to point out that this wish is a social/community change before a technical one. I don't know if the communities will be happy with giving rollbackers the right to block users who don't normally have that power. it can be misused in several ways - people may repeatedly block someone for 15 minutes or block people when they don't agree with them. I can see this tool be useful but there is also potential for misuse. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 23:57, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FF-11 Per my above comment, this proposal is a big social change and we won't be able to work on it as a Community Tech project. Giving blocking rights to non-admins is something that wikis need to agree to, before we can build it. I am going to have to decline this project. Sorry about that. We can reconsider this wish next year, if there is a prior wiki-consensus and discussion about this feature. Thank you for your time. -- NKohli (WMF) (talk) 23:04, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
