Arrow that denotes majority control in linear election bars

  • Problem: On linear bars showing the makeup of legislatures by party or bloc, the arrow that denotes the halfway point does not show up halfway in the mobile view; unlike as intended on desktop. This image shows the desktop page as viewed on a mobile device. When viewed on the mobile website, the arrow is pushed to the left, regardless of orientation [1][2]
  • Who would this benefit? Mobile viewers, particularly casual users who may not think changing back to desktop mode would “fix” it
  • Proposed solution: I do not know how to fix this. A bodge may be to split the majority faction into two parts, with one part showing how big their majority is. A bolded line in the table could then be used to denote the halfway or majority point of the chamber.

    So if a party had 56 seats out of a 100 seat legislature, that party would have a 50 seat section and a 6 seat section. It could be something along the lines of the thin grey box in the Hong Kong 2019 local election page https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/293289531396849664/779478006129360916/image2.png but the thin grey box denoting the halfway point in the legislature, rather than separating two factions

  • @Iamthinking2202: I think this proposal is too narrow and possibly out of scope. There are many other templates with similar issues in the mobile view, and they can usually be fixed by modifying their CSS. Potentially, you could broaden this to cover all templates with usability issues on mobile, but this would still not involve any changes to the underlying software, so it's not clear if this would be a good use of Community Tech's time (this could be accomplished entirely by normal volunteer editors).
