More Video on Commons

NoN Proposes existing solution

  • Problem: Wikipedia is relaying too much on text whilst video is becoming more important as information source for new generation. To upload a video to commons you have to be a real techies to have the right format which is not obvious for anyone.
  • Who would benefit: all users: new generation and people who has reading difficulties
  • Proposed solution: provide a way to import open licence video from video platforms e.g. vimeo or provide a simple way to convert video to the acceptable commons format.

Discussion

Hi @MusikAnimal (WMF):, apologies for not coming back to your question earlier. Yes the Video2commons tool works but it's producing very simple and not attractive videos. I was hoping that it could be improved in order to add some Ken Burns effects for example. besides that I was hoping to simplify the process of uploading a videos in commons (which is now very complicated as you need to convert the file beofre or uplaod it to a third party plateform like youtube and then import it back to common).Yamen (talk) 15:54, 21 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
