Annotations in panoramic images

  • Problem: Some panorama images can only be viewed in full resolution, e.g. here. So far, annotations can only be made in the preview on the image description page. That doesn't help here.
  • Proposed solution: As with this page, informative captions should be easily inserted into the full resolution of an image that the viewer can turn on or off.
  • Who would benefit: All images, where informations should be switched on or off in full resolution.

Discussion

  • @Milseburg: Thanks for your proposal! Am I reading this correctly that you're proposing that the large full-page image viewer should support annotations? Does phab:T58666 cover what you're proposing? Also, is "Annotations in panoramic images" a reasonable English translation of the above title? (We'll rename the page, and it'll be translated back to German.) — SWilson (WMF) (talk) 02:11, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I think, the tranlation is ok. I noticed to late, that I wrote the title in German and don't know how to move it. Unfortunately, I can't quite follow the discussion on phabT58666, but if you could switch annotations on and off in the original resolution, that would make sense for all images. The prerequisite is that this labeling can be inserted in a user-friendly manner. A viewer like this would be the crowning glory. --Milseburg (talk) 18:43, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Milseburg: Okay great. And yes, the details may still need to be figured out, but this sounds like a solid proposal. I'll set it up for translation now. SWilson (WMF) (talk) 00:07, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
