Deoband Community Wikimedia/Activity plans/Strategic plan for April 2025 - December 2025

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

This activity plan builds upon our previous six-monthly activity plan. This page outlines a comprehensive list of planned activities for the term spanning from 1 April to 31 December 2025. Please note that this list is dynamic.

Conversations, meetups and Workshops

[edit]

We announced the establishment of our first Executive Board on 26 March. In order to facilitate the board's work, we will specifically conduct two offline meetings for board members, providing orientation and navigational support. We will also facilitate organising of four to five Mehfil-e-Wiki events between April and December 2025. We will continue offering virtual learning sessions in order to making the navigation of Wikimedia projects easier for our volunteers and new members. We also aspire to offer two off-wiki workshops on Translation Administration and Internationalization during this period.

Additionally, we plan to offer some target-oriented workshops together with our Wiki Clubs. These workshops will be conducted in Aligarh, Deoband and Delhi - and will contribute to the sustainability of our Wiki Clubs. Morever, as we continue to develop the DCW Conversation Hour, we will have its 27th edition in March 2025, and we commit to conduct the conversation throughout the rest of the year.

As we turn 4 on 31st July 2025, we will be organising a special anniversary event around the same date, to celebrate our contributors and volunteers! Towards the end of 2025, we are envisioning a dedicated community meetup bringing in volunteers and leaders from our entire community and wiki clubs at one place.

Collaborations and partnerships

[edit]

DCW-K Editathon which we have been conducting since 2023 in collaboration with the Kashmiri Wikimedians User Group, is one of our successful edit-a-thons. We will conduct its third edition in in June 2025, with a target of bringing 150 new articles on Kashmiri language Wikipedia. More recently, we have also identified a partnership opportunity with the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (with a focus on Urdu Wikipedia), and are hoping to work on this as well. Additionally, with a focus on developming content related to Theology and Indian religious scholarship, we are hoping to collaborate with Al Mahadul Aali Al Islami, Hyderabad and Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom Akkalkuwa.

DCW Learning Zone

[edit]

We are developing a learning zone based on our Leadership Development and Skills Infrastrure Program. We will work closely with our technical volunteers to identify patterns and challenges around this. Through this zone, we are planning to offer a wide-range of basic and advanved courses. Since this is an incubated idea, we are not planning any front-end work on this project in 2025, but will engage our community in analysing and identifying possible pathways.

As of 3 April 2025, we have enrolled a selected group of 9 people (students and academics) to offer a trial course on Open Knowledge Ecosystem with a particular focus on the Wikimedia movement and several of our projects.

Mini-Hackathons

[edit]

We are hoping to organize two mini-hackathons and technical training sessions between April 2025 and December 2025. These mini hackathons aim to offer a semi-advanced understanding of our ecosystem's technical infrastructure and how we could contribute to its development and sustainability in accordance with the Movement Strategy Recommendation of Improving User Experience.

Heritage Lens

[edit]
For further information, see Heritage Lens.
Rawaq-e-Saalim at Darul Uloom Waqf

Heritage Lens is one of our successful programs which has so far helped us bring over 600 images on Wikimedia Commons. For this term, we envision a "Highway Heritage walk" targetting images from the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway which spreads over 247 kilometers. We will locally collaborate with Kashmiri Wikimedians User Group for this edition of the Heritage Lens. Although, this was idealised for the 5th Iteration of the project, which, however, could not be focused on due to odd weather conditions in the valley.

Iteration 6 of Heritage Lens will run from 24 to 30 September, with a target of over 150+ images; while 7th edition will be organised in during December 2025.

Train a Wikipedian

[edit]
For further information, see Train a Wikipedian.

Train a Wikipedian is our pilot leadership initiative, where we bring about 15 Wikimedians (students, scholars and educators). Its first edition was organised in February 2025, and the second edition is tentatively scheduled to take place on 18-19 October 2025. The pilot program will subsequently be revised in our plans for 2026. Through TaW, one of our primary objectives is to connect scientific and the wiki communities.

Wiki Clubs: Focus on Youth

[edit]

We continue supporting the development and sustainability of our Wiki Clubs: Wiki Club AMU, Wiki Club Deoband and Wiki Club Jamia. Through our Wiki Clubs, we remain committed to two major issues: developing a sustainable female leadership in Indian Wikimedia ecosystem, and fostering the growth of youth in our movement. Our clubs will be represented at the Youth Conference 2025 by our dedicated volunteers CosmicCodex and Raydann. We are ensuring active participation of youth in our activities through our Youth Focus Group.

At Wiki Club Deoband, we are hoping to collaborate with the Darul Uloom Deoband's Computer department, and organise an article writing contest related to Dars-i-Nizami. Through this, we target creation and improvement of over 70 articles on Urdu Wikipedia.

Additionally, after the successful execution of Wiki Clicks AMU in January 2025, we are organising Wiki Clicks Jamia from 11 to 25 September 2025, focusing the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Wikidata 13th Anniversary

[edit]

We celebrate Wikidata annually through our decentralised activities, including celebrations and label-a-thons.
