Digital Literacy Workshop for MUN Position Papers

As part of preparing students for Model United Nations (MUN) conferences, a dedicated session was conducted at Amity School, Dubai, on the importance and preparation of position papers. The session was facilitated by Mr. Akbar Ali, who focused on enhancing students’ digital literacy and research skills through Wikipedia.

A position paper is a critical document in MUN that outlines a country’s policy and stance on key global issues. Crafting an effective position paper requires in-depth research, sound understanding, and the ability to quote reliable references. The session emphasized using peer-reviewed journals, reputable websites, and verified books to support the policy statements students include in their papers.

Mr. Akbar Ali introduced participants to Wikipedia's referencing model. He explained how to explore the citations at the bottom of each Wikipedia article, assess the reliability and verifiability of those sources, and use them as gateways to authentic information. Instead of simply copying content, students were encouraged to trace back and evaluate references for use in their original writing.
