Introduction: I'm Alex / Canley, a user from Australia. I have been contributing to Wikimedia platforms since 2005, nearly 21 years, and am an administrator on the English Wikipedia, although mostly contribute to Wikidata these days. I am a member of Wikimedia Australia (WMAU) and Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ) and served on the committee/board of WMAU for four years. I am very interested in ESEAP and have keenly followed its growth and development from meetups at Wikimania to a fully-formed regional hub, and been an ardent participant in the hub including participation in and organisation of community meetings, conferences and strategy summits in the region and globally.

Movement contribution: I have been registered for over 20 years, having created an account in August 2005. According to XTools GC my global edit count is 824,926, and I estimate around 29,330 edits over Wikidata, Wikipedia and Commons over the past year.

Governance experience: I was an office-bearer member of the Wikimedia Australia board for four years from 2020 to 2023, including two years as president and one year each as vice-president and secretary. I have been an administrator on the English Wikipedia since 2008.

Statement: Now that the hub has been established, I am interested in being involved in several aspects of its ongoing work and growth, particularly: how large affiliates (e.g. Australia, Indonesia) can help smaller/newer affiliates without overwhelming them or their involvement and contributions, particularly First Nations/Indigenous communities, LGBTIQ+ contributors and the Pacific region; cross-national collaboration (Australia works closely with New Zealand but would like to see similar partnerships with other countries/affiliates in the region like Malaysia have done); technical knowledge sharing and infrastructure – I have a background in data science, statistics, machine learning/AI and geospatial systems and am keen on sharing my knowledge and expertise/experience with others in the region, as well as learning from others in these and other technical discussions and projects in the age of AI.
