Introduction: Hello, I am Plantaest. I am a biologist and also a software development engineer. My primary activities are within the Vietnamese Wikipedia community. Recently, I have become increasingly interested in collaboration and engagement within the ESEAP region. In May this year, I attended the ESEAP Conference 2026 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Movement contribution: I registered this account ten years ago and have accumulated more than 60,000 global edits. Since the beginning of 2026, I have made 1,645 edits on the Vietnamese Wikipedia.

Governance experience: I have served as an administrator on Vietnamese Wikipedia since 2020 and also hold interface administrator rights.

Statement: About a decade ago, the Vietnamese Wikipedia community maintained certain connections with the ESEAP region. However, governance mistakes made by some members of the previous generation led to a loss of trust, resistance to external involvement, and a general reluctance to engage with outside organizations. As a result, our community gradually became an isolated island within an otherwise vibrant region. Over the past five years, we have had no significant connections with the ESEAP community.

Given the current challenges facing Wikimedia communities—including the impact of AI, economic downturns, and increasing Internet censorship—I believe that cross-community collaboration within ESEAP is more important than ever. Such cooperation can help local communities like Vietnamese Wikipedia develop sustainably, strengthen partnerships, reduce the decline in both content and editor participation, and address unresolved issues from the past. One example is advocating for the removal of the ban on Wikipedia Asian Month, which has remained in place for the past eight years.

I have extensive experience within my local community, ranging from content creation and community administration to conflict resolution and the development of technical tools. I have received five Rapid Fund grants to build important software projects for the community. I hope to become a Community Connector and help the Vietnamese Wikipedia community engage more actively with ESEAP initiatives, opportunities, and support networks.
