Self Introduction
  • Organizational Experience:
    • I have been a Wikimedia User since 2009. Initially, my focus was on creating and improving English Wikipedia articles; I have created more than 1,000 of them, and improved many more.
    • Over time, I have also become a contributor to Wikimedia Commons (with about 20,000 uploads, and more than 100,000 edits (most of them creating or modifying categories)), and Wikidata.
    • I have been actively involved in ESEAP since 2018. I have attended all of the conferences and strategy summits, and many of the online community meetings. I have also had an active involvement in developing the ESEAP Hub. So, eg, the present Hub governance system was developed in response to comments I had made, with the support of the Wikimedian who is now the Senior Project Manager of the Hub, on some earlier proposals for the governance system.
    • At the first ESEAP conference in Bali in 2018, we were all encouraged to take an interest in an ESEAP community outside our own. I later chose to focus on Timor-Leste. I have since visited that country twice to take photographs for Wikimedia Commons, and have contributed a great deal of content to English Wikipedia about that country. I have also contributed content to English Wikipedia about Japanese art and whisky.
    • I have attended all of the Wikimanias since 2019, and am therefore familiar with many aspects of the worldwide Wikimedia movement that are showcased at those conferences. I have also attended other international gatherings, namely WikidataCon 2023 and the Wikisource Conference 2025.
    • I have been a member of the Board of Wikimedia Australia since 2022, and am a member of a subcommittee devoted to the recruitment and retention of members of that chapter.
    • I have been the President or Chair of two non-Wikimedia NGOs in Australia, in each case for several years.
  • Work/areas of ESEAP Hub I am interested in:
    • The ESEAP Hub has a charter, and a strategic plan for 2025-26. I am especially interested in assisting the Hub with complying with the charter and implementing the strategic plan, for the benefit of the ESEAP community, and the broader Wikimedia movement, including those who consume rather than contribute to Wikimedia content.
