ESEAP Strategy Summit 2025/Report/Buszmail

How this year's Summit came to be is found ► here

My name is Juan Bautista H. Alegre, regularly named Johnny Alegre, designated EPC Liaison, Programme Co-Lead, and Social Activities Lead of the Summit. You may find much about what I do ► here

I have to start by stating that Manila is my home city, a 38.55 km² metropolis of dozens of museums, not counting galleries, libraries, archives and ancient churches. My thematic organization, Pilipinas Panorama Community was set up to harvest free knowledge from these cultural repositories. It was my dream to share the wonders of our heritage in the Summit, and the hospitality that comes with it. Understandably the tasks I had with both the ESEAP Preparatory Council and the Core Organizing Team required many demanding skills that took time away, with the limited resources we had, but my fervent wish for a meaningful GLAM experience for our Summit attendees never weakened.

Visioning

[edit]

The ESEAP Strategy Summit 2025 (Manila) focused on ESEAP’s governance structure, ideas offered for regional collaboration and growth. Artificial Intelligence tools (AI) and risks of online safety, the lingering concerns about Freedom of Panorama and the need for supportive government legislation, the equitable dissemination of Foundation resources and the diversity of online ecosystems were major touchpoints.

The proposed ESEAP Liaison governance setup.

Volunteerism

[edit]
In the spirit of volunteerism, we dedicated time, physique and intangibles to deliver the ESEAP Strategy Summit 2025 groundwork to its fruition. The selfless offering by the volunteers of Pilipinas Panorama Community and the Wiki Advocates Philippines User Group fostered a strong identification between us, exemplified inspiration, growth and friendships across the ESEAP regional community.

Learnings: Empowerment for ESEAP's affiliates and communities

[edit]

The importance of fostering ownership and inclusivity in the Wikimedia movement is vital. By empowering participants to lead regionally-relevant initiatives, creating accessible newcomer manuals, and prioritizing translation, we can enhance collaboration and attract diverse contributions like GLAM, education, tech, and heritage preservation.
