Summary of My Participation
[edit]Attending the ESEAP Strategy Summit 2025 was a meaningful opportunity for me to reconnect with the Wikimedia movement and reengage with fellow Wikimedians across the region. As someone who had previously contributed extensively to Khmer Wikipedia and had taken a step back due to life priorities, this summit marked a turning point—a reawakening of my passion for free knowledge and open collaboration.
I appreciated the diversity and representation at the summit, not only geographically but also in terms of experience and perspectives. The structured conversations around the ESEAP Hub, Movement Strategy, and collaborative capacity building were insightful and encouraging, especially for someone like me aiming to revive a local community.
Key Learnings and Reflections
[edit]1. Understanding the ESEAP Hub and its Role
[edit]The Summit clarified how the ESEAP Hub is positioned to support affiliates and volunteers in a decentralized and regionally relevant manner. The vision of shared leadership, resource equity, and contextual flexibility resonates deeply with the challenges we face in Cambodia, where Wikimedia visibility and participation remain limited.
2. Movement Strategy Implementation
[edit]Several sessions focused on turning strategic recommendations into concrete, community-led action. Learning from other affiliates’ pilot projects and governance practices helped me imagine how similar frameworks can be adapted for Cambodia—particularly for capacity development and outreach.
3. Experience Sharing among the Communities
[edit]From many conversations I had with other participants, I have learned a lot from their community outreach and activities. A special mention and thank-you to Farouk (my room mate and Malaysian Wikimedian friend) for sharing a lot of advice for me to try out in reviving local wiki community in Cambodia.
Post-Summit Plans
[edit]Inspired by the summit, I plan to:
1. Reconnect with Past Contributors
[edit]Reach out to former Khmer Wikipedia editors and initiate conversations around co-editing, mentorship, and shared ownership of content creation.
2. Pilot Intergenerational Learning Circles
[edit]Design small group workshops where a young student (learner) is paired with a teacher or professional (mentor) to co-create Wikipedia articles in Khmer, with a focus on education, local knowledge, and cultural topics.
3. Explore Affiliate or User Group Revitalization
[edit]Evaluate the feasibility of reactivating or re-establishing a formal Khmer Wikimedia User Group or affiliate body to build sustained momentum, in alignment with ESEAP Hub support mechanisms.
Acknowledgments
[edit]I am deeply grateful to the ESEAP Strategy Summit organizing team and the Wikimedia Foundation for the scholarship opportunity. The experience has reinvigorated my commitment to the movement, and I look forward to contributing actively once again. --វ័ណថារិទ្ធ (Vantharith) (talk) 15:03, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
