Things learned at the strategy summit

[edit]

Community regeneration is important. As a newbie and just exposed to the wikimedia movement up to the ESEAP level, attending conferences and strategy summits like this is a good thing to understand the movement with more perspectives. This is a good provision for the sustainability and dynamics of the community in the future.

As part of the wikimedia community, attending meetings like this is important as a form of representation of certain participant criteria and as an informan for further information back to the community.

Things the participant contributed or participated in or since the strategy summit

[edit]

This is my first time attending the ESEAP Strategy Summit, after the previous year I attended a similar event but with a different focus of activities. Before the D-day, I joined a discussion from non formal group of 5 summit participants from various regions who held regular weekly online English class to improve our English language capacity and deepen the material related to the summit later.

During the Summit, I attended all discussion panels, such as Hub Action, The Governance System, Affiliate Health Criteria, Collaboration project, Open mic session, Strategic Tactics, CEE Hub, Global Trends Workshop and ESEAP Community Skills Mapping. I also attended the GLAM-Wiki Meetup and National Museum Tour sessions in the 3rd day.

Additionally, I also participated in Pitabangan Manila, a short online editathon organized by Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia.

Plans After the Strategy Summit (ESEAP 2025)

[edit]

After attending the ESEAP Strategy Summit, I shared my experiences with the members of Wikimedia Banjar community in the monthly community meeting in June 2025. I shared about the current situation of the ESEAP Hub, how collaborative projects can be done, and a glimpse of the Philippines.

In addition, I also started to design ideas related to projects that could be done by wiki contributors from various backgrounds and countries. One of the simple but impactful project ideas that could be implemented by contributors in ESEAP is the one done by Wikimedia Malaysia, called Pitabangan project. I also encouraged members of the Wikimedia Banjar community to participate in next project so that they have experience and insight in working on cross-country collaborative projects in the future.

Comments/ suggestions about the strategy summit

[edit]
  • If there is an open mic collaboration session at the next summit, I hope there will be a longer discussion session. I think every participant has an idea or project proposal that can be shared with all participants or just to hear feedback, but during yesterday's session the time given was very short.
  • I know I should have said this in the right session, but no problem, I am interested in collaborating with other Wikimedia communities especially on the topics of cuisine, food and Kalimantan in general. Hopefully Wikimedia will be a home for us to help the world become a better place.

Last from me, Long live karaoke session!
