Abstract:
This session explores the integration of generative AI in health education within Wikimedia editing projects focused on hearing health information. The educational implications of AI in collaborative knowledge production remain an open question to exploration. We aim to present a teaching model and educational use of AI assistance to improve edits by students and engagement on Wikimedia projects. The framework proposed to analyze AI-assisted compared to traditional editorial approaches with machine-based and human evaluation on metrics, student perceptions, and content production.

This session is relevant to the EduWiki conference because it directly addresses the intersection of AI and education in Wikimedia projects. It provides an opportunity to discuss how AI tools can transform student contributions while maintaining educational goals and community standards. The proposal includes a structured approach to training and editing using chatbots and metrics assessment using wiki-based tools such as LiftWing, ProVe, and Recoin, as well as student surveys and content analysis sheets. The focus on specialized health content provides insights into how AI can fill knowledge gaps in technical domains, making this session valuable for those interested in expanding Wikimedia's reach in specialized subject areas using AI.
