EduWiki Conference 2025/Program/Wiki and OER
- Shanna Hollich
Time: 14:00
Room: Guadalupe
Abstract:
In this interactive workshop, participants will first be presented with a brief overview of the global copyright system, the public domain, and the different licenses and legal tools available through Creative Commons. After this foundational work, there will be hands-on practice working with CC-licensed and public domain works by creating a remix or collection of open education and open culture resources. Participants will practice finding open materials, providing proper attribution for works that are being used or reused, and applying a Creative Commons license to their own original creations. Along the way, we will discuss best practices for using openly-licensed works in educational curricula and for skills development, with concrete examples of OER efforts across global institutions and in partnership with Creative Commons.
