Launch of Open Science on Wiki campaign

In August, Wikimedia Brazil launched the Open Science on Wiki campaign, which will promote a series of events, workshops, editing marathons, and seminars through October.

This campaign aims not only to identify barriers, but also to foster practical solutions that promote a more inclusive and collaborative scientific culture, thus helping to shape the future of open science in Brazil.

Activities on Wikidata

Participants of the Wikidata Training for Libraries and Research Centers.

This month, the Wikidata Training for Libraries and Research Centers continued with another online meeting with researchers and librarians from various institutions across Brazil. Adriano Arrigo, from RIDC NeuroMat, and Stela Madruga, from the IME-USP library, presented more options for using Wikidata in the academic environment, addressing topics such as modeling and creating items, and adding properties on the platform.

A joint initiative by several Brazilian university students, the edit-a-thon History Journals on Wiki reached its second edition this year. This scientific outreach activity aimed to insert data from dozens of Brazilian history journals and papers into Wikidata.

Training on Wikimedia platforms and scientific dissemination

During the welcome week for new students entering the Postgraduate Program in Art History at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGHA/UERJ), WMB held a training session on Wikimedia platforms and their potential for scientific dissemination.

The Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons Workshop – Physicist's Site was a partnership between Professor Valdirene Pereira da Conceição, from the Library Science program at the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), and Wikimedia Brasil, within the context of Wiki Loves Maranhão activities.

After a photo tour at Sítio do Físico, cultural heritage that houses remains of one of the oldest industrial complexes from the time of colonial Brazil, undergraduate and graduate students from the university improved Wikipedia entries about the Sítio do Físico Ecomuseum, fostering a connection between field experience, the production of visual records, and the dissemination of knowledge through Wikimedia's collaborative platforms.
