Final Wikipedia project with Shefit Hekali school in Peqin, Albania

Summary: From February to April 2025, the Wikimedians of Albanian Language User Group collaborated with the students and teachers from Shefit Hekali 9-Year School in Përparim, Peqin, to explore the power of Wikipedia as an educational tool.

As part of the Year of the Albanian Language framework, this project focused on enhancing digital literacy, research skills and critical thinking. 17 students and 4 teachers participated in editing sessions and group work for 2 months learning how to create Wikipedia accounts, edit and improve articles.

They improved content related to their region, covering topics like geography, notable local figures, and animals by editing a total of 60 articles on Wikipedia.

The project concluded with a school event attended by principal Nexhmije Teqja, representatives from the Peqin Education Office, and members of the school community. During the event, students shared what they had learned and created through:

Poems, essays, and handcrafts using the Wikipedia and our User Group symbols;
Paintings inspired by free knowledge;
A dramatization, where Wikipedia was personified to explain its role in sharing open knowledge.

This time, our User Group aimed to go beyond traditional editing by encouraging students to engage creatively by combining Wikipedia content through arts’ expression to reflect their understanding of free knowledge in a personal way. We are happy to see this great work and proud of the results achieved.
