On 2 July 2026, the Tamil Wikipedia community organised Google25 Tamil Wikipedia Workshop 1 at Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore. The workshop introduced 50 faculty members from diverse departments to Wikimedia projects through practical training in Tamil typing, Wikipedia editing, article creation, Draft workflow, and referencing. To encourage collaborative learning and avoid duplicate work, participants were assigned articles in advance and received one-to-one mentoring throughout the session.

The workshop resulted in 66 new articles, 68 articles edited, 280 edits, and 75 references added to Tamil Wikipedia. Participants also learned how to create encyclopedic content using reliable sources and understood the complete workflow from Draft creation to publishing quality articles. The programme demonstrated how educators can contribute their disciplinary expertise to Wikimedia projects while promoting digital literacy and open educational practices.

“The structured article allocation and hands-on mentoring helped participants confidently create and improve Wikipedia articles within a single day,” said one of the workshop facilitators.
