The Journey to 1,000
When we started, the goal was simple: make knowledge accessible in Nupe, a language spoken by over 7 million people, yet underrepresented online.
The early days involved creating basic stubs, translating essential articles, and learning the technicalities of incubator and on-wiki processes. Through the support of mentors from the wider Wikimedia community, we gradually built momentum.
Workshops, edit-a-thons, and one-on-one mentorship sessions helped transform curious newcomers into confident editors. Each article, whether about a local town, a traditional dish, or a historical figure, became a brick in building a knowledge home for Nupe speakers.
Beyond Technical Skills
This journey has been about more than editing. It has fostered leadership, collaboration, and a deep sense of ownership. We learned to organize as a community, to source knowledge responsibly, and to document oral histories that would otherwise be absent from the internet.
What This Milestone Means
Reaching 1,000 articles means:

- Sustainability: Strengthening partnerships and building a core team of admins and content patrollers to ensure long-term growth.
